Dehong Tropical Agriculture Research Institute of Yunnan (DTARI) was founded in December, 1962. And it is one of the four research institutes of Yunnan Provincial Agricultural Reclamation Bureau. It mainly undertakes national and local key and strategic research projects on basic scientific research and innovative application of tropical economic crops, and carries out selection and breeding of new varieties, integration research and promotion of modern ecological agriculture technology, application and transformation of scientific and technological achievements. To provide basic scientific research and public welfare services, such as identification of tropical plant varieties, standard setting, early warning of pests and diseases, agricultural product quality and safety risk assessment, planting technology consultation and training, popular science education etc,. To provide theoretical foundation and technical support for tropical area resource protection， industrial development and ecological security.

In 2023, there were 92 employees, including 64 professional and technical personnel, 3 management personnel and 25 work personnel. Among the professional and technical personnel, there are 2 doctors (in studying), 24 masters, 34 undergraduates and 6 college students. According to the division title, there are 5 researchers, 11 associate researchers, 28 assistant researchers, 14 Research Assistant. There are 2 experts with outstanding contributions in Yunnan Province, 3 people who enjoy Yunnan provincial government subsidies, and 5 people had been selected as an innovative talents training object in Yunnan Province. DTARI has 6 professional research centers (rubber, coffee, medicinal plants, horticultural plants, testing and transformation of scientific and technological achievements etc.), 3 functional offices (technical management, administration and finance, etc.), two technical support departments (Technical training center, Chengbei Farmers Market).

The institute covers an area of 1，470 Mu (or 100ha)， including about 1，333 Mu (or 89ha) of scientific research and demonstration bases. The Ruili Coffee Germplasm Resources and the Ruili Dendrobium Germplasm Resources identified and awarded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas have been established. There was the Agricultural Products Quality and Safety Risk Assessment Experimental Station of the Ministry of Agriculture, and the National Natural Rubber Industry Technical System-Dehong Comprehensive Experimental Station. 3 fine variety of seed breeding bases such as rubber, coffee and sarcophagus, and coffee, Dendrobium and Moringa stand ardized planting demonstration garden awarded by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural etc., research platform. And it presved924 species, 2029copies of tropical crop germplasm resources, including coffee 5 species, 550 copies; 379 copies, 119  f Dendrobium, more than 1，100 copies, above 800 species of South medicine and tropical fruits and vegetables and flowers. It has a total laboratory area of 9000m2, intelligent isolation greenhouse of 1200m2, ordinary greenhouse 6000m2, coffee rust lab (cooperating with Portuguese CIFC), coffee cup testing lab, biotechnology lab, medicinal plant tissue culture lab, Be certified agricultural product testing center lab and other experimental platforms, technology radiates 13 prefectures in Yunnan Province and Sichuan, Tibet, Guangxi, etc., 20 test sites spread throughout Yunnan’s cooperative enterprises, co-op and small farmers. The above platform provide strong foundational and technical support for Yunnan Tropical crop research and industrial development.
